Boardman Bikes’ 3D commerical hitting Youtube’s 3D channel

Although some people are calling this one of Youtube 3D’s first short films in 3D, I wouldn’t give it that kind of categorization. It’s more like one of Youtube’s first 3D advertisements. The forward thinking company Boardman Bikes, which is a premiere bicycle manufacturing outfit based in the UK, put together a 90 second ad showcasing a mountain bike. They put it through the outdoor paces with a microscopic story line built in (which, I guess is where that ‘first 3D film’ on Youtube was coined).
At any rate, 3D is perfect for advertising. Expanding and merging both of those art forms should prove to be interesting. There will also be a debate about how effective commercials are on the sub-conscience but there is a huge market for it, and one can see how with 3D-TV and 3D Gaming, that 3D commercials have a built in place in so many methods of delivery.
Chris Boardman commented: “We thought it would be cool to be at the vanguard of the latest film revolution. With C4’s 3D week having whetted the national appetite for 3D films we hope it will go viral. As with all great virals, the story delivers a nice little twist at the end. “
As I said before playing up the ad as a “film” is a bit much. But as a decent 3D ad, it could have a chance of being a bit viral.
