Lord of the Rings in 3D

It looks like we will see a re-issue of the The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 3D sometime in 2012. In fact, we may see a run of ‘classics’ in the sci-fi and fantasy genre transferred to 3D over the next few years, including Star Wars (yes, I groaned too. Just leave it alone George). As annoying is this will be for purists, it can have a positive effect. Hopefully this will keep ticket sales steady, encouraging more theaters to install 3D projectors. It is quite an incentive, as these films will probably be ‘instant hits’. It will also fill the gap between the major releases we’ve seen lately, which have come from the last few dollars remaining from the booming economy. With poor finances, there will be a few years of fewer pricey productions slated until the economy rights itself. So re-issues might keep theaters popular during a probable movie lull.
